ROAD CONDITIONS GOING TO ST ALBANS
Updated 15/8/05

The roads leading to St Albans all have sections of unsealed surfaces. This report details what was found on 17/7/05 and 24/7/05. Conditions could change from what was found on the above dates.

St Albans Road. This is the 20 km road from the Webbs Creek ferry and crosses the bridge at St Albans to reach the ride base. There are two sections of dirt road, 600 metres on the ferry side of the school, then 5 km from Boyds to 300 metres out of St Albans. It is corrugated with small pot holes in part. The dirt road is very dusty. This is the roughest dirt road found of the three access roads to St Albans, it also has the least amount of dirt road. Please note the 10 km/h speed limit on the St Albans bridge.

Settlers Road. - This is the 20 km road from the Gosford side of the main Wisemans Ferry to the St Albans village. There is 10 km of dirt road in this route, which has been recently graded and is at present (15/8/05) in good condition for a dirt / gravel road. The road still has minor corrugations and some loose gravel on top of the hard dirt surface. This tends to make the surface slippery, please travel with due care. This road has a greater length of unsealed road than St Albans Road (on the other side of the Macdonald River) but is a smoother ride. The road is very dusty.

Wollombi Road. - This road starts at the George Downes Drive at Bucketty. It is 35 km of dirt road and enters St Albans via the St Albans Common. The road was found to be corrugated in part with some minor potholes and very dusty.

Roads to Avoid. - Bicentennial & Lower Portland Roads are totally unsuitable for floats, trailers & caravans due to road width and a very tight hairpin bend.

On ALL ROADS in the area. - All roads in the area are narrow & winding, drive with care and observe the low gear signs on the hill descending into Wisemans Ferry on the Old Northern Rd.
