21/8/04 8pm - Another sunny, dry day. A good frost this morning followed by a temperature of 28 degrees in the shade. Pre- ride vetting tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon.
22/8/04 7am - The sun just peeking over the hill, sky is completely clear, the grass is frosty white and its 2 degrees after an overnight low of 1.4 degrees.
23/8/04 7.45am - Sunday (yesterday) peaked 26 degrees with some gusty wind in the afternoon. A power blackout due to a tree on power lines caused minor disruption to the pre-ride organisation (the effect limited by the use of power generators). Very mild overnight with 3 am temperature of 9.5 degrees, dropping to 5.6 degrees at 6am today. 64 horses started at 4 am. first horses in at 0703.
24/8/04 6.30am Tuesday. - Yesterday, Monday, peaked at 24.2 degrees (in the shade) with some periods of gusty wind. The low temperature was 4.8 degrees overnight to today, Tuesday. The morning is perfectly still, no breeze, with a heavy blanket of fog and the sound of chain saws cutting up firewood for the breakfast camp fires. 56 riders have started this morning. 59 were left in the ride at the end of Monday (see the Day 1 numeric listing), but a further 3 did not start this morning, entrants 43, 53 and 88. Daily results should be available by about 7pm each evening.
25/8/04 5.30am Wednesday- Yesterday (Tuesday) the temperature peaked at 26.2 degrees and it remained very warm til late, 22.6 degrees at 4pm. Overnight low was 5.7 degrees with 7.9 degrees at 5.30 am (Wednesday morning). There is no mist at ground level and a number of stars are visible. Yesterday another 14 entries retired from the ride and so far another one (entrant 103) has retired this morning, leaving a field of 44 on today's first leg which is via Shepherd's Gully and the convict built Great North Road. Daily results should be available by about 6.30pm this evening.
26/8/04 6.30am Thursday - Wednesday was a rather hot day with an "in shade" daily maximum temperature of 25 degrees. There was a cool change about 6pm. Overnight to Thursday the lowest temperature was 6.6 degrees. At 6.30am its currently a misty 9.2 degrees. There were another 8 withdrawals or vet outs on re-present this morning, leaving just 26 entrants on the course this morning. Those retiring from the event this morning were 20, 21, 61, 65, 68, 70, 71 and 105. Last night the timing of results being placed on the internet was delayed by a missing log book and a missing entry in a log book. Tonight, 6.30pm is the planned upload time for today's results, challenges permitting.
27/8/04 4.40am - Today, Friday, is the last riding day for Shahzada 2004.  The weather yesterday turned on the hottest day yet with an in the shade maximum of 27.1 degrees C. Entertainment for those in camp included the Shahzada Olympics. At the end of Thursday the field was 20 entrants out of 64 that originally started on Monday. At the time of writing, (4.36am), one more entrant (number 1) has withdrawn, 15 are already out there riding the Friday first leg of the course which is up the Steps, and 4 are yet to start. Today's results are likely to be loaded on the internet by about 7pm, but its worth a look about half an hour earlier. Don't forget to reload or refresh to ensure that you get the latest information.
27/8/04 5.40am - All 18 entrants are now on the Friday leg one course via the Steps. Entrant 18 is an additional withdrawal.
27/8/04 6.00pm - its all over except the parties. The temperature made 30.4 degrees in the shade, it was very hot. There was no Friday club, but two riders withdrew before the start this morning and four were vet lame after the first leg today. The end result was 14 completions from 64 starters.
